RICHMOND HILL – Marjorie Margie Lairsey Kenton passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 30, 2010 surrounded by her family at the residence of her niece, under the care of Hospice Savannah.
Margie was born in Waycross, Georgia on August 8, 1923. During her teenage years she lived in Charleston, South Carolina and graduated from Memminger High School in Charleston. She was a 1944 graduate of Georgia Baptist Hospital School of Nursing in Atlanta. Margie was serving in the Army Nurse Corps when she met her husband. After their marriage they made their home in Dover, Delaware where she remained for the last 65 years.
She was predeceased by her husband, Elwood Woody Kenton; son, Donald Earl Kenton; her parents, Corbett Earl and Lillie Tucker Lairsey; stepmother, Estelle Bailey Lairsey Hanton; brothers, Roger W. and Corbett Earl Lairsey, Jr.
She is survived by her sister, June L. Ronald Allen; stepbrother, Fred L. Marsha Hanton; nieces, Patricia T. John Riddleberger of Dover, Leslie A. Mike Graddick, Diane A. Hugh Hodges, Claire A. Tim Kirkland; nephews, Robert E. Lairsey of Thousand Oaks, California and Jeremy Danielle Hanton. She is also survived by a number of great nieces, nephews and great-great nephews.
Services will be held at Torbert Funeral Home in Dover, Delaware at a later date.
